October 24th – what a great day! Even though he wasn’t due for another 2 weeks Aiden decided he wanted to make his own birthday! His early arrival did mess up my Halloween costume (cow girl holding a pumpkin :)), but I’m so thankful to have him with us! A week and a half before he was born I found out at my doctor’s appointment I was 1 cm dilated and starting to efface. That following Sunday, the Sunday before Aiden was born, I had been having some “Braxton Hicks” contractions, but didn’t think much of it. Sunday night we called the doctor and she said not to worry and to just keep an eye on things. Monday morning we had our regular doctors appointment where I found out I was 3 cm dilated and 90% effaced. The doctors words were “Your days are numbered, but I’ve seen people make it to their due date….” so no help there. The Braxton Hicks contractions continued and Tuesday night we called the on-call doctor again, but he just said “don’t worry about timing them and stressing yourself out they’re just Braxton hicks”. I woke up in the middle of the night Tuesday night thinking I was constipated and sent JJ to the store at 1am for medicine. The next morning (Wednesday) I called the doctor (only because mom and JJ insisted I do, and I wanted to know if it was ok for me to take the medicine). They asked me to come in to be checked as soon as possible. Well I let them know I was working and my husband was at work but that we would get there as soon as we could. Well we got to the doctor at 11am, expecting to be sent back home (and the doctor expected to send us home) only to find out I was 6cm dilated and they were sending me straight to the hospital. After stressing JJ out some more by finishing up some work e-mails in the car and calling the parents to let them know what was going on, JJ let me know we really needed to go!
We got to the hospital and finished checking in around 12:30pm and asked Vanessa, our awesome nurse, when she thought he would come. She let us know she was off at 7 and thought he could come then, but that it could also be into the night. Soon after that my water broke and that got the process going! A few more steps and 4 hours later, Aiden was here. He arrived at 4:23pm weighing 7lbs 3oz and 20 and 1/4 long, beautiful baby boy! I didn’t have an epidural and felt good afterwards so we were moved about an hour and a half later to the postpartum room. Aiden beat the parents who were coming from Franklin :), and they arrived just as we were moving into our room! We spent the next few days in the hospital room resting and receiving guests and then had Bachi and Gaddi come visit for the weekend! It’s been a great week and we already love him so much! Below are some pictures!
